Acceptable Use Policy

This policy defines the permitted and prohibited uses of Lex Source IO. All users must comply with these rules. Violations may result in account suspension or termination.

🚫 Prohibited Activities

Automated scraping, resale of AI outputs, uploading confidential data without consent, and any illegal activity are strictly prohibited. Review Section 3 for the full list of prohibited uses.

1. Introduction and Scope

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") defines the permitted and prohibited uses of Lex Source IO, including all associated websites, APIs, AI-powered research tools, document upload features, alert systems, and monitoring workflows (collectively, the "Platform").

By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to comply with this AUP. Violation of this policy may result in account suspension, termination, or legal action as described in Section 7 below.

This AUP applies to all users, including free-tier users, paid subscribers, enterprise accounts, and administrators. It supplements the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

2. Permitted Uses

Lex Source IO is designed and intended for the following legitimate uses:

Legal research: Searching, retrieving, and analyzing Kenya Gazette notices, court decisions, legislation, and related public legal documents
Compliance monitoring: Tracking regulatory changes, corporate filings, land notices, succession matters, and public appointments relevant to professional compliance obligations
Due diligence: Conducting pre-transaction research on entities, properties, and individuals mentioned in public legal notices
Academic and journalistic research: Using the Platform for scholarly, educational, or journalistic investigation of public legal records
Internal team workflows: Integrating AI-assisted research into internal legal, compliance, procurement, and policy operations
Alert configuration: Setting up recurring monitoring for entities, categories, or jurisdictions relevant to legitimate professional interests
Document analysis: Uploading documents for AI-assisted summarization, extraction, and analysis within the scope of permitted research activities

3. Prohibited Uses

The following activities are strictly prohibited on the Platform. This list is illustrative and not exhaustive:

Automated scraping, data mining, web crawling, or bulk extraction of Gazette content, search results, AI outputs, or any Platform data, whether through bots, scripts, or other automated means
Resale, redistribution, syndication, or republication of AI-generated summaries, analyses, or structured outputs as standalone legal opinions, research products, or commercial offerings
Use of the Platform for illegal surveillance, unauthorized background checks, stalking, harassment, or any activity violating privacy rights or data protection laws
Uploading, submitting, or processing confidential client data, privileged communications, or personally identifiable information of third parties without explicit, documented consent
Attempting to reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or extract the AI models, retrieval algorithms, ranking systems, or any proprietary technology underlying the Platform
Using the Platform to generate, distribute, or facilitate misleading, fraudulent, or forged legal documents, notices, or official communications
Impersonating government officials, legal authorities, court personnel, or any other person or entity through Platform features
Uploading malware, viruses, ransomware, or any malicious code designed to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorized access to the Platform or its infrastructure
Any activity that violates Kenyan law, applicable international law, or the laws of the jurisdiction in which the user resides or operates
Using the Platform to circumvent sanctions, export controls, or trade restrictions imposed by Kenya, the United Nations, or other applicable authorities
Submitting queries or uploading content that promotes discrimination, hate speech, or violence based on ethnicity, religion, gender, or other protected characteristics
Creating multiple accounts to circumvent credit limits, rate limits, free-tier restrictions, or account suspensions

4. Fair Use and Rate Limits

Lex Source IO operates on a credit-based consumption model. Each AI query, document analysis, and monitoring alert consumes credits at rates displayed on the Platform.

To maintain service quality for all users, the Platform enforces rate limits on API calls, search queries, and AI processing requests. These limits vary by subscription tier and are designed to prevent abuse while accommodating legitimate research workflows.

Excessive or abusive query patterns — including but not limited to rapid-fire automated queries, denial-of-service-style request floods, or queries designed to extract bulk data rather than conduct genuine research — may trigger automatic rate limiting or manual review.

Lex Source IO reserves the right to adjust rate limits, credit consumption rates, and fair use thresholds at its discretion. Material changes affecting paid subscribers will be communicated with reasonable notice.

5. Content Upload and Processing

Users may upload documents to the Platform for AI-assisted analysis. The following conditions apply to all uploaded content:

Users must have the legal right to upload, process, and analyze any document submitted to the Platform
Uploaded documents must relate to legitimate legal research, compliance, due diligence, or academic purposes
Users must not upload documents containing malware, illegal content, or material that violates third-party intellectual property rights
Documents containing personal data of third parties should only be uploaded where the user has a lawful basis for processing such data
Lex Source IO processes uploaded documents in accordance with the Privacy Policy and applicable data processing agreements
Uploaded content may be retained for the duration necessary to provide the service, after which it is deleted in accordance with data retention policies

6. Account Security and Responsibility

Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of their account credentials, including passwords, API keys, and multi-factor authentication devices.

Users must not share account credentials, allow unauthorized access to their accounts, or use another user's account without explicit authorization.

Users must promptly notify Lex Source IO of any unauthorized access, suspected security breach, or compromise of account credentials.

Enterprise and team account administrators are responsible for managing user access within their organization, including promptly revoking access for departing personnel.

Lex Source IO recommends enabling multi-factor authentication and using strong, unique passwords for all accounts.

7. Enforcement and Consequences

Lex Source IO reserves the right to investigate suspected violations of this AUP and take appropriate enforcement action, which may include:

Issuing a warning and requiring corrective action within a specified timeframe
Temporarily suspending account access pending investigation
Permanently terminating accounts for serious or repeated violations
Removing or disabling access to content that violates this AUP
Reporting illegal activities to relevant law enforcement or regulatory authorities
Pursuing legal remedies, including injunctive relief and damages, for violations causing harm to the Platform or its users

8. Reporting Violations

Users who become aware of any violation of this AUP are encouraged to report it promptly through the Platform's contact channels.

Reports should include a description of the suspected violation, any relevant evidence (screenshots, URLs, timestamps), and contact information for follow-up.

Lex Source IO will review all reports and take appropriate action consistent with this policy. The outcome of individual enforcement actions may not be disclosed to the reporter due to privacy considerations.
